(Pre) Official Launch
Who am I?
Why do I have a blog?
I'm Martha Flynn, and I do what people tell me to do.
Last November, my dad told me I should finish a story I wrote back in 8th grade, so I did.
Last month, Kate Perry told me to query the story, uncritiqued, to an agent, so I did.
This month, author advice websites told me to start a website and a blog, so I did.
Would I jump off a bridge if you asked? Which bridge, and what am I tied to?
Maybe you saw Yes Man - 90 minutes of Jim Carrey's character saying yes to every insane idea tossed his way with the simple message that if you open yourself up to life's opportunities, you might experience something cool.
My book may never sell, and I may write another 15 years without publishing, but right now - this moment - still feels pretty cool.
I've never considered myself a yes person. I hate flying, nature, and big social situations so I close myself off from a lot of opportunities. But every recent memorable experience has been a result of just saying yes to a friend (or stranger) without considering why I shouldn't.
- Swimming from Alcatraz? I blame Pete.
- Signing up for Triathlons? Eunice and Sara - I hate you guys!
- Trying out Breakdancing? Ayse, really???
- Getting Married? That's my husband's fault (but thank you)
- Rock climbing? Jenny, it took you a year, but you got me.
- A weeklong vegan cleanse? Jen D., you're going to owe me big time when we're done
The list goes on - if you've asked and it didn't involve an airplane or my insane allergies, then I probably said yes - so now I'm asking you to check out my blog.
I officially launch February 14th (Valentine's Day.)
I'll be posting entertainment reviews on television, movies and books, entries on my favorite girl crushes, writing related FAQ, and a monthly "Last Line" contest for an amazon.com gift certificate so stay tuned!
