Eat It: Cake Balls

I have to thank the talented Nova Ren Suma for introducing me to this confectionery genius.

Cake Balls are yummy bite-sized nuggets of cake and frosting with truffle coating. A natural cousin to the bite-sized cupcake which I recently discovered in New York.

Maybe you are lucky enough to live close to such a vendor, but I had to scour online.

My favorite finds were The Cake Ball Company and Vintage Confections on Etsy - who had much more to offer besides Cake Balls, for the record.

Take a looksie at this red velvet cake ball photo from Vintage.

That's joy in a bite, my friend.

yeah, but is the inside *doughy*? y'know what I mean? a stale middle can totally kill something like this.

that said, i'd follow your culinary impulses anywhere. :)

YES! You've explained it much better than I did. Oh are they delicious! For the ones I had, the inside is very doughy... the cake is very, very soft, almost batter-y. (That could seem gross, but I promise it's not.)

Never heard of them but they sort of remind me of donut holes but waaay more fancy and yummy looking. I had no idea people sold food on etsy too. My gosh they have the best jewelry and stuff but food? Wow I have to go check it out it and see what else is out there! And what's this about cupcakes? Love cupcakes so I must find out about the bite size ones! I was just in NYC this past weekend too but failed to discover any culinary treasures like that. How sad.

Rebecca - this was the first I'd heard of food related ETSY vendors, too - a pleasant surprise! The cupcakes were Baked by Melissa - a few blocks from the Scholastic store/office - so good, especially the s'mores cupcake.

Sophie - when it comes to food - have I ever led you astray? And BTW - HAPPY BOOK RELEASE!!!!!!!!

Thanks again, Nova! And Rena - I hope you get to try some! Mmmmmmmmm.

hm, no messing with those pesky paper cupcake wrappers. This means that cake balls are good for the environment, as well!

Oh, wow. That looks so yummy, and they're adorable, too. I've never even heard of them, but now I'm glad we don't have any for sale close to me or I'd probably become addicted. I LOVE cake.
