Plant it: A Garden!!! Part 1
I fear an inevitable apocalypse. I don't know if it's coming from zombies or flu or nuclear war. But if it gets here, I want to be able to feed myself. About half of these apocalypse scenarios still lend themselves to successful gardening. I figured I'd get started.
Step 1: Make room in the backyard.
This particular bush was a low producer. Note the lack of roses on those thorny branches.
Unlike these babies - who are my favorites
But I digress...
Step 2: Lay out the box.
Some people build. I buy. This plastic 3'x3' garden box is available online. Fill it with good potting soil and give it a day to settle.
Step 4: Lay in drip water lines. Use rings around trees or for circular formations.
Step 5: Pick a variety of seeds, seedlings and bulbs to plant.
One step closer to living off the grid.
To Be Continued...

Zombies. LMAO. You and Abel really need to meet.
Okay--so you are doing Rachael's thing...in my younger years I built my own, now would love to buy...where do i find the box?????
Come back and see me when you get your first slugs. But -- you have roses! All my roses got ruined by the rain in Scotland because I was too stubborn to crack and buy rose-blight-blitzing chemicals. Now I'm in a country with so much sun I could grow roses without chemicals -- and I have no time. Sad, isn't it?
wow, that's a lot of work! but i love the pretty roses/flowers that are in full bloom!!!
can't wait to see your pimped out backyard on saturday!
Melanie - you are so going to eat your words when the zombies come.
Lisa - gardeners.com - good stuff!
Mary - CURSES! I found my first slut not more than two hours ago. AGH!

Your roses are beautiful!
I have a black thumb, so luckily my husband became the gardener last year. He's so excited because he's planting veggies for the first time this year! So I can enjoy the fruits of his labor. :) I will do much of the weeding though! Good luck with your garden!
Zombies...hee. Though with feeding them your hubby's blood, it will probably just create a whole new race of zombified plants to worry about too. Thanks, Martha.
